“This Builder’s Edition 814ce Special Edition was hand delivered to us by our Taylor Sales Manager – and wow - there is quite a story on this guitar!
This specific guitar came out as one of the very first production runs on this model, and in that time period, every one of the guitars had to be hand inspected by Taylor’s CEO and Head Guitar Designer, Andy Powers, to be sure it was meeting all of the criteria that this guitar had to offer. It was so special, that this one went from Andy’s office directly to The Fretboard Journal Guitar Conference in Chicago in September of this year.
Present at this event was Andy Powers, Bob Taylor, Rich Casciato (our Sales Manager), and Aaron Dablow (Sales Manager for the Americas). This team of 4 were on hand during this event to explain the Builder’s Edition models, and what they represented as far as the ultimate Taylor Guitar offerings; and this one was the “Star of the Show” as the brand-new “secret release” of a Gloss Black Special Edition with a Kona Edge-Burst back and sides. In “Andy-speak” - “If you’re going to take your flagship model (the 814ce), then design a Builder’s Edition around that, but then make a “SPECIAL EDITION” version and “tuxedo it up”, It better be extra special – and this one is!”
After the Fretboard Journal Event, Andy and Rich headed to one of the Chicago Dealer Showrooms and put on a private event Taylor Showcase, and the guitar that Andy hand-picked and chose to play alongside Rich was this exact Builder’s Edition 814ce! “This guitar is a really special piece – it sounds EXACTLY the way I was intending it to sound when I designed it…..this is a VERY special guitar!”

Finished with a stylish black finish for the top, this new version of our ultra-refined Builder's Edition 814ce offers a striking visual flavor to complement its rich tone and seamless playability. This model features back and sides of solid Indian rosewood paired with an Adirondack spruce top, yielding commanding power, a lush overtone profile, clear trebles and warm lows. A chamfered body edges and a beveled armrest and cutaway, along with the easy-playing Taylor neck, provide unmatched playing comfort for every style even up to the highest part of the guitar's register, while the V-Class interior bracing dials up improved volume, sustain and harmony all the way up the neck. Along with the black top treatment, this model features a full-body gloss finish and a stunning Kona edgeburst for the back and sides.
